08/08/2014 - Mundubbera - Lawgi Dawes
Well, today turned out to be quite an eventful one and one that changed the direction of our trip, quite literally!
Let Mundubberra with the intention of staying somewhere between Monto and Biloela. When we were in Monto we were just leaving an op-shop (as you do) and a Holden Colorado ute towing a 5th wheeler drove past. I put my hand up to say "gooday" and he put his hand up in return.
We quickly jumped in the car and followed him with the intention of asking some questions about his rig and caught up with him at a service station.
Turned out to be a couple from NZ, Mary and Willy, originally from Switzerland, they had sold their dairy farm after 20 years living in NZ and were now travelling around Australia.
Had lunch together in the local park and Willy offered me a drive of their rig, he didn't have to offer twice!
Drove the Colorado and the 27ft Puma 5th Wheeler about 75km up the road and was impressed with how the Colorado towed the 5th wheeler and how easy it was to handle the rig.
We stopped at a free camp about 30km south of Biloela and we camped together there and had dinner together as well, great couple with whom we shared alot of laughs.
Long story short, that night we made the decision to head back to Narrabri (800km) and negotiate on the HyLine 5th wheeler!
