Big day today, left Port Huon at 0930, weren't sure quite how far we would go, but headed for Queenstown some 316 kms away. Doesn't sound a lot in kms but in Tassie we are learning that distance is rarely measured in kms, but more often in time.
This proved to be the case today as the Lyell Hwy, a rather ambitious name for this country road, proved to be fairly narrow and winding in lots of places, with a fair bit of climbing mountains thrown in.
Throw in quite a bit of rain and things got quite interesting at times.
One of the highlights of the day was our visit to The Wall, at Derwent Bridge in the Tasmanian Highlands.
As photography is forbidden here I would suggest you look at Google Images, suffice to say we were blown away by the artistry and craftsmanship of Greg Duncan. The work is housed in a beautifully designed building that blends with the landscape rather than imposes its' will on it.
If you are ever out this way, make sure you stop and have a look.
The rain really set in after we left here and we visited Lake St Clair National Park where we had a brief look around.
After inspecting 2 different camp sites, which weren't deemed suitable, it was decided to push on to Queenstown where we arrived just before 1800 closing time.
The caravan park is the only one in town, probably just as well as they certainly couldn't cope with any competition. So if anybody is up for a challenge to improve a caravan park, it is for sale, freehold and all.
