We decided to take the scenic out of Sydney to head home. The Grand Pacific Drive along the coast via Wollongong and Kiama is a bit more scenic than the Hume Highway!
The road actually goes over the sea for about 800m and it looks quite spectacular from the lookout.
However from inside the car it is not nearly as spectacular!
From here wound our way back to the Hume Highway with the intention of an overnight stop in Albury/Wodonga. The weather gods decided to influence that decision with the skies opening up around Holbrook, we then discovered that one of the headlight globes had blown. Made it to Wodonga just before the shops closed, bought a replacement globe and fitted this in darkness and pouring rain!
We then decided to push on, stopped at the worst fast food place (MacDonalds-Glenrowan) on the Hume Highway and the decision was made to push on, getting home by 10pm.
We covered 9980kms on this trip, Terry did a great job of getting us there and back and we thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our (almost) 6 weeks road trip.
We didn't think we would last the 6 weeks, but we almost did. Would we do it again? Yes, most definitely but probably with a caravan rather than a camper trailer. Our search for a caravan has already started!
Now to prepare ourselves for our next outing, Mansfield - Mt Buller to the snowfields with our son and granddaughters.
