29/07/2014 - Yarrie Lake - Lightning Ridge

After having spent the previous day, Monday, spending more time looking at the 5th wheeler and test driving 2 different utes capable of towing it, we decided to shelf the idea for the time being as we felt we did not have enough information to make a decision, nor had we ever towed a 5th wheeler.

So we would keep heading north and evetually to Brisbane where there were a couple of dealers selling these 5th wheelers, as well as a couple of private sellers offering their complete rig for sale. So a few opportunities there to test drive a rig of this size, which appeared quite daunting!

A planned 2 day stay at Yarrie Lake turned in to a 5 day stay.

So off we went to Lightning Ridge, knowing full well that the 5th wheeler could be sold by the time we were ready to make a decision.

Heading towards Lighting Ridge via Wee Waa and Walgett. Miles and miles of cotton fields, although the cotton has been picked already so most fields are barren..

Give way to horses!

Walgett is not the most inviting place to visit with a lot of the buildings having high security fences and barred windows.

The obligatory War memorial, I wonder how many different ones there are in Australia?

On to Lightning Ridge we go.

Lightning Ridge is an outback mining town where they mine Black Opal, it was unexpectedly busy here as there was a week long Opal Festival culminating in the Opal Ball on the Saturday night.
