30/07/2014 - Lightning Ridge - Collarenebri
As it was so busy in Lightning Ridge we could only get 1 night in the new Opal Caravan Park but could get another night at another site, meaning we would have to pack everything up and move, pass!
This park was very new, all gravel (not much grass around here!) and all sites quite wide and drive through. Quite reasonably priced at $34/night, toilet and shower block was one of the best we have ever seen on our travels.
Having had a walk around the gemstone market we were ready to move on.
This would be the highest price for LPG we have ever seen anywhere, we thought $1.099 at Longreach last year was high!
On the was out we had a look at Stanley, a 16 mtr high statue of an emu made from 2 old Volkswagen bodies and 2 satellite dishes, amongst other bits of discarded steel.
We were aiming to go to Moree today but having a look at Wikicamps found a free camp at Collarenebri, on the Barwon River, with hot showers so we decided to stop and have a look.
The facilities were quite nice, even a dump point provided!
Settled on a nice spot by the Barwon River.
