The day finally arrived, we departed on our trip to Tasmania, first to Port Melbourne via Calder Highway and Metro Ring Road.
The day finally arrived and we set off from Bendigo for Port Melbourne via the Calder Hwy and the Metropolitan Ring Road.
From Port Melbourne - Station Pier - it approx 445km by sea to Devonport, boarding from 1700 and departing 1930.
Here is a view of the Spirit of Tasmania from the other side of Station Pier, the side the international cruise ships moor at.
Patiently waiting in a long line for our boarding passes. It was at this time that the heavens opened up, this after having had a total of 13mm of rain for the year so far, oh well!
I have added some pics here of driving on to the ship via the loading ramp, that Johanna took those I was driving.
There is an unaccompanied caravan in front of that car and behind the bloke directing me. He let us go much too far in, which created a few hassles in the morning getting our rig off the ship.
Here we are in position on Deck 5 of 6, just before the off ramp at the stern.
We were booked in Ocean recliners for the overnight trip, this the the area at the stern where they are located.

We were allocated window seats which was a bonus, not the you see much at night, but there only 2 seats side by side at the windows.

It takes about 2 hours to leave Port Philip Bay and then we will be in open sea, Bass Strait. Forecost winds 10-15 knots with up to 30 knots as a front moves through during the night with thunderstorms.
