Toured the west side of the Tamar River, Port Sorell at the mouth was our first stop, nice beach. Seems to be a retirement place as there are lots of new houses here and seemingly no other reason for the tows' existence.
On to Beaconsfield, the site of the Beaconsfield Mine disaster in 2006. One miner died and two were trapped 1 km underground for 5 days.
It was this event that started the parliamentary career of Bill Shorten, who appeared chained to any TV camera within sight of him.
The mine finished operating in 2012.
Inside the museum the have recreated the space where Todd Russell and Brant Webb were trapped for the five days until rescuers could bore a tunnel to get them out safely.
The pipe shown here is aout the same size as the space they had within the fallen rock.
The yellow cage above is what brought the 2 miners finally to the surface.
We had an enjoyable walk around the indoor and outdoor exhibits in the Mine Museum established here.
There was even an old belt driven wood turning lathe on display complete with all the old tools.
Drove back to our caravan park at Latrobe at the end of the day.
