25/03/2014 - Freycinet NP - Swansea - Triabunna - Port Arthur

On the road again, headed for Port Arthur, via Swansea and Triabunna.

Some nice historic buildings in Swansea (also op-shops!)

On to Triabunna where we were going to catch the ferry to Maria Island NP, only to find that we had missed it! It leaves at 10am and returns around 4pm, so next time perhaps.

Water Police coming in. Triabunna is quite a busy commercial fishing port.

There was specialised squid fishing boat in port, quite an interesting operation as was explained to me by one of the crew.

It has rows of very bright lights down each side to attract the squid.

The lines are on automatic reels, when they detect a certain weight of squid on the line it gets reeled in and as it comes in the squid gets flicked off and the line gets fed out again.

As well as commercial fishing boats the Triabunna harbour was also home to quite a selection of nice private vessels.

Obviously owned by a retiree!
