16/03/14 - Arrive Devonport

Ship docked at 0600 and we were ready to disembark by 0630. As expected this created a bit of a problem as we had been instructed to park much to close to a unaccompanied caravan in front of the stern ramps.
We were also very close to the side of the vehicle deck and had a line of cars behind us as long as the ship!
After clearing a few cars from behind us I reversed very carefully with 3 TT Line personnel guiding me and eventually we created enough room to swing our rig past the stationary van. Phew. 

All this of course after a relatively long and sleepness night, oh well, we wanted adventure and we got it.

Off the ship, through quarantine, no fresh fruit or vegies, no fish (fresh or frozen, no fishing tackle and a few other no-nos.

Clean bill of health and we were on the road (still dark) to the Latrobe Mersey River Caravan Park, where we had pre-booked for a couple of nights. Only 10km down the road, so we arrived before 0700, no one in the office, so we left a message on the answering machine. After about half an hour Gavin, the owner, came out and gave us  key to the facilities and told us where to park.

By this time we were wide awake again, probably because of the low temp (about 6 or 7C) and a very strong wind as well as a bit of rain.

So we had breakfast and coffee and decided to go have a look at Devonport, but didn't initially get any further than the Sunday Market in Latrobe!

Bought the best smelling and tasting strawberries we had come across for a long time for dessert for tonight.

Back to the caravan, lunch and off to Devonport again. Bought supplies in the supermarket and after a brief drive around Devonport decided to head for Sheffield, a little historic town that has heaps and heaps of murals.

I photographed 48 and there were still plenty left.

Quite a good view of Mt Roland from the outskirts of Sheffield.

Back to Latrobe via Railton, like most Tasmania towns seem to have, it had a theme, this time topiary.

Not really in to mangled trees to look like anything but trees, and with rain falling, we pushed on back to Latrobe.

Early night tonight for these two oldies!

This was the area we covered today, not much but given our condition, all we could manage!
