Stopped at the local bakery for a hot chocolate and a Beesting.
On to Atherton, stopped at the Curtain Fig Tree, still raining cats and dogs, I guess you can't have a rainforest without rain!
Next stop Yundaburra where a new Avenue of Honour was opened in June in memory of Australian soldiers killed in action in Afghanistan.
This has been very well done, without falling in to the trap of seeming to glorify war.
There is a plaque for each fallen soldier, the first one being an SAS Sergeant back in 2002.
On to Cairns via a very steep descent on a winding road down the mountain, beautiful views around each bend, but no places to stop to take photos.
Checked in to a caravan park in Cairns which was very crowded, we now know what sardines feel like in their little can!
But it was a good chance to literally recharge the batteries and have a nice long hot shower.
Contacted Graham from here as I found out that the other reason for our visit to Cairns, a meeting of the CNC sub-group of the Woodworkers Forum, had moved venue from Babinda to Cairns itself.
As we were due to meet Graham and Inge on the following Saturday we had to find out where they were and where to meet.
As it turned out they were at Lake Tinnaroo, which we had passed earlier that afternoon, on the other side of the lake is Yundabarra! We also stopped in Atherton at the same time that they were there!.
We decided to move back up to Lake Tinnaroo in the morning where we would meet them and surprise Inge as she was unaware that we were travelling up to Cairns to be there for her birthday on the 22nd.
