Day 8 - 13/07/2013 - Barcaldine - Theresa Creek Dam

Left Barcaldine, after the obligatory op-shop stop, direction Emerald.

Emerald's claim to fame is a giant reproduction of a van Gogh painting, The Sunflowers, every country town these days seems to need something BIG.


The reason for the sunflowers is that the region around Emerald grows a lot of sunflowers.

 Around this precinct there are some old buildings and a path with mosaics depicting the history of the district.








 After lunch in Emerald, and filling up with diesel, we set off for Theresa Creek Dam, outside of Clermont the site of 2 large coalmines, Clermont Mines and Blair Athol Mines.


The lake was created by the Blair Athol Coal mine as a source of water for their operations, but it is certainly an attractive place to visit for locals and visitors alike.
